WHO WE ARE

Hello,

You must be wondering who are the people behind this idea, behind this website.  To tell you a bit more about us, we are just 4 ethology students at the University of Rennes 1 who wanted to gather most of the sustainable initiatives in Rennes around the consumption and production of food. Our project mainly wanted to target Rennes students, but Rennes' residents can also enjoy find useful informations on our website. This idea was born in 2021, during an English course on the 2030 agenda for sustainable development. A date established by the UN member states in 2015 aims to achieve 17 sustainable development goals by then. These goals cover all development issues in all countries, such as climate, biodiversity, energy, water, poverty, gender equality, economic prosperity, peace, agriculture, education, etc.

At our level, sensitized for a few years by the food waste, we wished to concentrate on objective 12, which aims at responsible consumption and production.

Indeed, today, global food waste is estimated by the United Nations to be close to one-third of total production, representing about 1.3 billion tons of food lost or thrown away each year. However, it does not stop there; plastic in food packaging is also a big problem, with less than 30% of plastic waste collected for recycling and does nothing to reduce food waste. Not to mention the environmental consequences of this packaging.

To reduce our daily waste, we must start by consuming just in proportion to our real needs. Then we need to revalue our resources, whether it is food or anything else associated with it, with composting, recycling and reuse. We can indeed maximize the uses, whether it is food and packaging; moving towards a consumption-based on reuse (deposit, bulk sales) rather than on disposable is already a good step!

Small gestures do not allow us to change our carbon footprint or our impact on the planet drastically. Still, they are essential because they will enable us to take action, to question our way of life, to become aware of the urgency to change our way of consumption and production.
